Building charitable roots toward a more equitable future

Supporting women readers, writers and thinkers in prison

"Thanks to Some of Us Notecards, a woman and Black owned

greeting card maker, for donating 120 of these beautiful bookmarks for women in the TDCJ [Texas Department of Criminal Justice]. We will be including them along with book requests."

---Inside Book Project

Austin, Texas

Six out of every ten women in prison are incarcerated for non-violent offenses, and the number of women who are in prison for criminal acts related to self-defense is astonishing.  While many of these women are mothers and daughters and sole breadwinners, they are, more importantly, often the nucleus of their families. Many women use their time in prison to self-educate, learn, grow, and even thrive.

However, during COVID, many prison libraries where shut down. Some of Us Notecards, LLC wants to be sure that incarcerated women have access to words, ideas and opportunities to grow their hearts and minds. To this end, for every bookmark that is purchased, we will donate SIX bookmarks to prison libraries and bookclubs.  We hope to work in collaboration with Inside Book Project to achieve this, and we will keep you in the loop as our charitable branch grows!

Partnering with Housing Works Bookstore

Some of Us Notecards is pleased to begin a new partnership, providing greeting cards to Housing Works Bookstore in New York.  Housing Works is a gathering space, cafe, and  bookstore in lower Manhattan hosting tourists and locals alike. Best of all 100% of the proceeds from sales benefit the needs of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Find out more about them here.

This year we provided books written by fierce Black women writers to incarcerated women for

NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY

(Actually, we would have sent the books anyway, but designated day of giving? Yes please!!! 😊)
